CASE STUDY: The Paris Strategic Perfumery Symposium Curated and Led by Zaga Colovic
I was commissioned to design and lead a high-level, 2 -day intensive symposium for eight emerging perfumers from the Chinese market. Each participant arrived with an existing involvement in the fragrance industry, seeking to bridge the gap between their current practice and the "British-standard" of luxury brand strategy and technical excellence.

The Strategy: Logistical Intelligence
- While Paris is a traditional hub, the choice of location was a calculated strategic decision. Paris was selected as the optimal international hub to facilitate seamless visa processing for the Chinese delegates, ensuring the focus remained on the curriculum rather than administrative friction.
Days 1 & 2: Craft, Commerce, and Competition
The first two days in Paris were dedicated to an intensive workshop focused on the “Zaga Colovic” methodology—where artistry meets rigorous commercial logic.
- The Technical Craft: We moved beyond simple scent-building to explore narrative and positioning. The perfumers were challenged to define the “invisible art” behind their creations.
- Commercial Due Diligence: I led the group through the strategic frameworks required to scale a brand in the global luxury market.
- The Final Creation Showcase: The symposium culminated in a high-stakes competition. Each delegate was tasked with producing a final creation that balanced professional craftsmanship with market viability. Each perfumer presented their scent in a “pitch” format, defending their olfactory choices and business strategy.
The Result: Certified Excellence
To mark their successful completion of the programme, each participant was awarded a Certificate of Perfumery Mastery.
The eight perfumers departed with a refined business framework and an intimate understanding of the European fragrance ecosystem. Through this bespoke mentorship, I continue to empower the next generation of industry leaders to build brands that define presence and command international respect.
